Computerized Complex for Ultrasonic Peening of Parts and Welded Elements
نویسندگان
چکیده
An advanced computerized complex for Ultrasonic Peening (UP) of parts and welded elements based on piezoelectric transducers was developed recently. The complex consists of a compact ultrasonic transducer, generator and a laptop with an Expert System for UP optimum application: maximum possible increase in fatigue life of parts and welded elements with minimum cost, labor and power consumption. Application of UP treatment may increase/restore the designed stress range of welded elements up to the fatigue strength of the base material. The increase of fatigue life by UP is achieved mainly by relieving of harmful tensile residual stresses and introducing of compressive residual stresses into surface layers of metals and alloys, decrease in stress concentration of weld toe zones and the enhancement of the mechanical properties of the surface layer of the material.

Optimum Application of Ultrasonic Peening
A new advanced system for Ultrasonic Peening (UP) of materials, details and welded elements was developed recently. The UP produces a number of beneficial effects in metals and alloys. Foremost among these is increasing the resistance of materials to surface-related failures, such as fatigue, fretting fatigue and stress corrosion cracking. The beneficial effect is achieved mainly by relieving o...
متن کاملThe Effect of Ultrasonic Peening Treatment on Fatigue Performance of Welded Joints
Ultrasonic peening treatment (UPT) as a method of severe plastic deformation was used to treat cruciform welded joints of Q345 steel. The application of UPT achieves material surface nanocrystallization of the peening zone, reduces stress concentration, and produces residual compressive stresses at the welded toe. Micro-structure, hardness, stress relief, S-N curve, and the fatigue fracture mec...
متن کاملIntroductory fatigue tests on welded joints in high strength steel and aluminium improved by various methods including ultrasonic impact treatment (UIT)
This paper summarizes fatigue test on high strength steel specimens in the as-welded condition and specimens treated by ultrasonic impact treatment, TIG dressing and a combination of TIG dressing and ultrasonic impact treatment. Single lap joint specimens in 6 mm aluminium plate material were tested in the as-welded, hammer peened, needle peened and ground condition. Aluminium joints with longi...
متن کاملFatigue Life of Repaired Welded Tubular Joints
In this study, the effect of repair on fatigue life of tubular joints is investigated. Six cracked specimens precedently subjected to fatigue loading undergone to weld repair. Two of those specimens were shot peened before primary fatigue loading. It is shown that repair gives rise to about 150% increase in fatigue life for original specimens while the increase of fatigue life for shot-peened ...
متن کاملAn Experimental Study on the Tensile Behaviors of Ultrasonic Welded T-joints for Polyamide Composite
In this paper, an experimental investigation on ultrasonic welding of polyamide composites reinforced with glass fiber has been carried out. The effect of ultrasonic welding parameters, such as welding time, air pressure, hold time and the amount of glass fiber in the composite on tensile strength of weld joints were determined using response surface methodology. This methodology was applied fo...
